Nice memory of the battle that took place. Unfortunately I did not find an information board on site, but luckily I could find the information online.

L''avant du navire était installé à une centaine de mètres avant de trouver une nouvelle place il y quelques années sur cette nouvelle estacade. Régulièrement on trouve des gerbes de coquelicots au pied de ce monument.
A memory of this English boat which had wanted to block the German submarines. The front of the ship was installed about a hundred meters before finding a new place a few years ago on this new boom. We regularly find wreaths of poppies at the foot of this monument.

Mai 1918 versuchten die Briten, mit der HMS Vindictive den Hafen von Ostende zu blockieren und damit den Durchgang deutscher U-Boote zur Nordsee zu verhindern. Die HMS Vindictive wurde im Hafen von Ostende versenkt und kosteten den Briten 8 Tote, 10 Vermisste und 29 Verwundete. In der Nähe des Ortes, an dem das Schiff versenkt wurde, ist das Denkmal heute ein stiller Zeuge des Ersten Weltkriegs.
Im Mai 2013 erhielt der restaurierte Schiffsbug der HMS Vindictive einen endgültigen Platz am Ostufer des Hafens von Ostende.
On the night of May 9th to 10th, 1918, the British tried to block the port of Ostend with the HMS Vindictive and thus prevent the passage of German submarines to the North Sea. The HMS Vindictive was sunk in the port of Ostend and cost the British 8 dead, 10 missing and 29 wounded. Located near the place where the ship was sunk, the memorial is now a silent witness of the First World War.
In May 2013 the restored bow of the HMS Vindictive was given a permanent place on the east bank of the port of Ostend.

Het verhaal achter de HMS Vindictive is typisch om de Duitse opmars destijds een halt toe te roepen door de haven van Oostende onbruikbaar te maken of althans te proberen. Mooie site van waaruit je een totaal ander beeld krijgt van Oostende als havenstad.
1 of the meaningful war monuments in Ostend. The story behind the HMS Vindictive is typical of stopping the German advance at the time by rendering the port of Ostend unusable or at least trying. Nice site from which you get a totally different picture of Ostend as a port city.
