About VZW De Brug Protected Workshop

8 juni 1971 : Onder impuls van Dr. Raoul De Smedt wordt De Brug gesticht op de site Waesdonck door een groep personen van het psychiatrisch zieken-huis van de Broeders van Liefde te Mortsel (St.-Amedeus, nu Multiversum), de Broeders Alexianen te Boechout en de Nationale Bond tegen Epilepsie, afdeling Antwerpen. Al deze instellingen hebben nog steeds een vertegenwoordiger in de raad van beheer.

20 augustus 1973 : De beschermde werkplaats start op met 15 arbeiders met een handicap en 2 begeleiders.

1978, 1979, 1983 en 1988 : Het oorspronkelijk gebouw wordt in fases uitgebreid tot een oppervlakte van 10.000m².

1993 : Er wordt beslist tot aankoop van het aangrenzende domein Venneborg, waar de firma Mertens N.V. jarenlang gevestigd was.

31 januari 2013 : De werkplaats wordt getroffen door een zeer zware brand. De afdelingen spuiterij, stoffering en elektronica worden terug heropgebouwd.

Heden : De Brug stelt 270 mensen met een arbeidsbeperking en 90 begeleiders tewerk. De totale site beslaat 56.000 m² bedrijfsterrein waarvan 35.000 m² gebouwen.

MAAR vanaf het moment dat het minder gaat, of er zijn (fysieke/mentale) problemen is dit een verschrikkelijke werkplek! Mijn vriend MOEST van de ARBEIDSGENEESHEER een speciale stoel krijgen om zijn knie te kunnen ontlasten (EEN STOEL DIE DE BRUG WETTELIJK VERPLICHT WAS AAN TE KOPEN OP EIGEN KOSTEN!!!!) Zodat hij zijn werk kon blijven uitvoeren. HIJ MOEST EEN GEWONE STOEL DELEN MET EEN COLLEGA MET RUGKLACHTEN DIE NIET LANG KON BLIJVEN RECHTSTAAN!!!!!! En dat noemt zich dan een beschermde werkplaats "maatwerk, werk op maat" mijn gat ja!!!!!! As long as the employee can do his job without problems (both physically and mentally) this is a very good workplace. BUT from the moment it goes less, or there are (physical / mental) problems this is a terrible workplace! My friend had to get a special chair from the LABOR MEDICINE to relieve his knee (A CHAIR THAT WAS LEGALLY REQUIRED TO PURCHASE AT YOUR OWN COST !!!!) So that he could continue to do his job. HE HAD TO SHARE AN ORDINARY CHAIR WITH A COLLEGA WITH BACK COMPLAINTS THAT COULD NOT STAY FOR LONGER !!!! And that calls itself a protected workplace "custom work, custom work" my hole yes !!!!!!
