★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellente surprise.
Excellent surprise. Small museum without great means but with the charm of yesteryear and well documented. We discover the prosperous period of the region in the footsteps of Clovis and the object of the Roman and Merovingian era.

The old Mont-de-Piété was built from 1618 under the direction of the General Superintendent of the Mountains, Wenceslas Coberger.
The anchors on the northeast facade give the date 1622.
A staircase turret dominates the northwest facade.
Since its closure in 1866, the building has served as a barracks, prison, school commissary and printing press.
It has housed the Archaeological Museum since 1953.
Real treasures to discover from prehistory, Gallo-Roman and Merovingian times with detailed explanations.
Close to Place de Lille and the Maison de la Culture.

Nice museum with very interesting collection.
It shows that Tournai was an important city.
That was over 1000 years ago.
This monolingual, French, museum shows a lack of ambition.
A missed opportunity.

The museum is not exceptional but it is worth a look. Nothing transcendent, welcoming staff and pretty artifacts.

The size of the museum is ok. The entrance fee (2.10 €) is more than ok.
Various objects are beautifully displayed in the museum. Unfortunately, there are also objects that are displayed just a little too often, which can cause a feeling of repetition.
Unfortunately, all information, including all information, is only available in French, while Kortrijk is only 25 km from Tournai.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There are many fine pieces, but you have to provide the context yourself. It's mainly an old-fashioned museum, with lots of stuff in glass cases, with labels in French.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really small museum, no English speaking personnel but helpful, we could understand each other by "hand" speaking, parking somewhere on the nearby streets, no wc or closed wc? the articles were very interesting, beautiful mainly the golden ones, there is a "play" room so the kids had fun, the museum is worth the money spent (really cheap) so I reccomend to visit it
