★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great ambiance and character! The owner is very personable and knows his trade very well. My friend and I flew from Beervana (a.k.a. Portland, OR) to Belgium to make a "beer pilgrimage" around the country, with Kortrijk being one of our stops for Omer Vanderghinste's exceptional sours, and our time at De Gouden Aap was without any doubt one of the highlights of our stay in the city. They have very good beers both bottled and on tap at perfectly reasonable prices (in fact, some prices are lower than what we are accustomed to paying for beers of this quality in Portland). Although De Gouden Aap had been in business for just two weeks at the time of our visit, the quality of the place would make you believe they've been in business for years. You must pay them a visit if you find yourself in Kortrijk!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was the first bar I visited when i arrived in Belgium. The bartender was super friendly and gave me some tips and facts about Belgium that definitely helped me during my visit. The bar is cozy, inviting and quiet. It was a Tuesday night but the bartender told me during the weekend they have a DJ and open up a dance floor.
