★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This space is so, so beautiful, and it's clear that the owners are really passionate about what they do. They have a vision for an expansion of the building that will allow for even more amazing festivals (I was lucky enough to attend Shabaka 2019), and you can see they really work to collaborate with and support their in-house teachers. As for their belly dance teachers; Shoonya and Ghent are incredibly lucky to have two extremely passionate, well-learned and motivated dancers from their respective styles of belly dance. Matthias and Badriyah are such hard-working, dedicated teachers, and I'm thoroughly impressed by their knowledge and technical precision regarding tribal fusion and classical belly dance, respectively. In short, Shoonya is fabulous, the belly dance team rocks, and I can't wait to come back to Shabaka in 2020!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is a great place to learn to dance and meet people. The classes are well planned and the teachers (I have had 3 in 2 different dance styles) are top notch.
I have tried other dance schools in Ghent but Shoonya has that soul and sense of community you won't find elsewhere.
I am so happy to finally get back to dancing Classical Belly dance with Lenka, she is knowledgeable, very technical and still really sweet.
