★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Die hier geehrten Einheiten haben das enorm große amerikanische Tankdepot (mehrere Millionen Liter Sprit) daß hier entlang der Straße lag vor dem Eintreffen der Kampfgruppe Peiper vernichtet.
Peiper erreichte in Stavelot am 17/12/1944 eine noch intakte Brücke über den Fluss Amel der von den Amerikanern mit drei 57mm-Panzeranwehrkanonen (PAK) verteidigt wurde. In der Nacht des 17. zerstörte Peiper die PAKs, doch bevor er die Brücke überqueren konnte, die ihm den Zugang zum Tankdepot ermöglicht hätte und die seinen Vormarsch bis weit hinter die Maas ermöglicht hätte, befahl Major Solis die Brücke zu sprengen. Da die Sprengung nicht erfolgreich war, befahl er den ihm untergestellten belgischem 5. Bataillon das Benzindepot anzuzünden und somit völlig zu zerstören.
 The units honored here destroyed the enormous American tank depot (several million liters of fuel) that lay along the road before the Peiper combat group arrived.
Peiper reached a still intact bridge over the Amel river in Stavelot on December 17th, 1944, which was defended by the Americans with three 57mm anti-tank guns (PAK). On the night of the 17th, Peiper destroyed the PAKs, but before he could cross the bridge that would have given him access to the tank depot and which would have enabled him to advance far beyond the Meuse, Major Solis ordered the bridge to be blown up. Since the demolition was unsuccessful, he ordered the Belgian 5th Battalion, which was subordinate to him, to set fire to the petrol depot and thus completely destroy it.
