The Brussels stew (carbonnades bruxelloises) reminded me the one that my mom was used to cook in winter. All the dishes actually reminded me her cooking !! The pub is also a unique stam cafe, I like the special atmosphere from those old pubs. The only important point to keep in mind is to book 4-5 days in advance ;-)

Then they told us they have only two meals from the menu and left. In 10 mins someone else came and told us they don’t have any of the meals. 40 mins waiting for nothing

My last visit done in March 2022 showed many changes from my first visits. The previous owner has sold the bar some 4 years ago. Unfortunately, the beer menu is a bit too conservative and lacking. I expected more Brussels based microbreweries, and there was only 1 De la Senne beer, with a blend of traditional Belgian beer styles like the triple, the abbey beer and the pils. More efforts are put into the food: Belgian dishes (carbonnades and fries, stoemp) and a few fingerfood options like ballekes (meat ball). This is the venue where I had the Flemish kipkap alongside Lambic 5y ago, but no more on the menu nowadays. Still worth a visit if you never visited the venue, but for beer options, there are a couple of more interesting options in the neighborhood.

Not only surrealist Magritte’s favorite hangout, but also that of Hergé, the genius comic-author of Belgium’s most famous hero, Tintin. While it’s famous customers is reason enough to pay it a visit, the authentic food doesn’t disappoint either. Far from. The typical Brussels stoemp (mashed potatoes with any type of seasonal veggie), which comes with pork sausage is heaven on a place. A must do when in Brussels!
