★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tonight we had an excellent dinner at L’Ancien Bruxelles. We live in Brooklyn, New York and when we travel, we try to find the type of restaurants that will make us understand more the country we are visiting. That’s what gastronomy really means to me. This is exactly that kind of place. Unpretentious, delicious classic Belgian cuisine, homemade and served with love. You will feel at home and treated with care. Also; be prepared to eat, the portions are big. We had shrimp croquettes, perfectly fried with great fresh and crunchy salad, a very good carbonade (typical beef stew cooked with beer) and moules aux epices. All the food was fresh and delicious. We finished our meal with the most outstanding waffle I’ve had in my life: airy, light and crunchy. The melted chocolate that comes with it is as good as Belgian chocolate should be. I only have photos of some parts of the night because the food was so good I didn’t even bother to waste my time. Good food is made to be eaten and enjoyed.
If you’re looking for grandma’s style good food in a relaxed and extremely welcoming environment, go here. You won’t be disappointed :)
When we come back to Brussels, we will definitely be back.

The place is decorated nice, and it is easily can be seen that the restaurant is here for a long time.
We had local food, mussels, fish and vegetables, and some soup. Everything was fresh, tasty, served nice.
