★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kunstschilder Piet Gilles werd geboren in Alkmaar (NL) in 1908 en overleed in Leuven in 1995. Hij volgde zijn opleiding bij de Stedelijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Lier in 1920 en vanaf 1922 bij de Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Leuven. Hij was werkzaam in diverse steden in België en Nederland, maar ook in Spanje, Italië en Frankrijk. Hij stond vooral bekend als pastellist, pentekenaar, schilder en tekenaar. Zijn stijl was uiteenlopend en tijdsgebonden, van expressionisme tot postimpressionisme en abstrahering.
 Painter Piet Gilles was born in Alkmaar (NL) in 1908 and died in Leuven in 1995. He was educated at the Municipal Academy of Fine Arts in Lier in 1920 and from 1922 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leuven. He has worked in various cities in Belgium and the Netherlands, but also in Spain, Italy and France. He was best known as a pastelist, pen artist, painter and draftsman. His style was diverse and time-bound, from expressionism to post-impressionism and abstraction.
