★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Site of the Tir National where Edith Cavell was executed by a German firing squad on October 12, 1915. The plaque is at the back of the cemetery. The 11th name on the plaque is Gabrielle Petit, a spy for the British Secret Service during World War One, was executed on the 1st April 1916
